About this Layout

There’s an ancient tale about one of the most selfless of all fae. The legend tells that when an area has been utterly destroyed, whether or not it is by the hands of nature or mankind. Then something truly wonderful happens, within the polluted water a Mayfly Nymph is born. The story goes on to say that the Nymph will live in these poisoned waters, filtering them to create life where there was once only death. Her task takes many long, lonely years. Finally the day will come when the water again is clear, pure, and it can rejuvenate the barren lands. The Nymph will then pull herself from her home, her wings glistening on her back to dry, thus becoming a Mayfly Fairy. On the dawn of the first day out of the water she will begin to sing. Very few have heard this song, but those who have all claim it would put even the birds to shame. It is said to be a song of longing, for someone to find her in her loneliness before her life ends.

And so the Mayfly Fairy will sing for seven days. And when her song ends so shall her life.

This story was the base of this website. I’ve always enjoyed mayfly ever since I was a young girl, watching them flit about above the waters of Lake Superior. Mayflies are known for inhabiting only pure bodies of water and for their long adolescences but extremely short adult lives. Adult mayflies usually only live between 30 minutes to a month according to species.

I feel this reflects finished works such as the ones that will be found in this portfolio website. Most can take a long time to complete, anywhere from a week to a month, but once their finished they can only be appreciated for a short time, such as the duration of the animation.

But to express the work that went into these projects, I have created pages that lead to the complex coding as well as a few work-in-progress shots. If you wish to see some process of the creation of this site, please scroll down and click the thumbnails.
